Dr. Sonia Smithson, DDS
Dr. Sonia Smithson began her journey toward a career in dentistry at the young age of 14. Her love of serving people, avid interest in the sciences, outstanding manual dexterity, and skillful eye for art continued to fuel her pursuit of achieving excellence in dentistry.
Upon graduating from DuPont Senior High School in Hermitage, Tennessee, she received numerous college scholarships. She was the recipient of the Will R. Manier Rotary Club Scholarship, the E.B. Shepherd Memorial Scholarship, and a Work Scholarship at Tennessee Technological University.
Dr. Smithson received her Bachelor of Science (B.S.) from Tennessee Technological University in June, 1981, graduating Magna Cum Laude. As an excellent student, she received numerous honors, awards and scholarships. She was inducted into the Mortar Board Honor Society, Alpha Lambda Delta Honor Society, and Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society. She received the Howard G. Ashburn Memorial Scholarship and the Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society Scholarship.
Dr. Smithson received her Doctorate of Dental Surgery (D.D.S.) from the University of Tennessee Center for the Health Sciences (UTCHS) in June, 1985, graduating Magna Cum Laude. While attending UTCHS, she received numerous honors and awards, including the Scholastic Achievement Award from Omicron Kappa Upsilon Honor Society and selection to the IMHOTEP Society.
Dr. Smithson opened her dental practice in June, 1985, in Brentwood, Tennessee. She has continued to deliver the highest possible level of dental care to her patients in Brentwood, TN and Franklin, TN for over 25 years. Dr. Smithson has been relentless in continuing her education, constantly participating in seminars and workshops. She is a member of the Tennessee Dental Association, the Nashville Dental Society, the American Dental Association, the American Academy of Implant Dentistry, and the Middle Tennessee Dental Implant Study Club. She currently serves as the Vice President of the Alabama Implant Study Group.
Teresa Waynick, RDH
Teresa graduated from Tennessee State University, majoring in Dental Hygiene in 1998 and has been with our office ever since. She graduated with high honors, of course. Prior to entering hygiene school, Teresa was a Registered Dental Assistant for 12 years.
Teresa enjoys dentistry and being able to help change a patient’s smile. She said, “Improving someone’s smile really lifts their self esteem and makes them feel better about themselves, and that makes me feel soooo… good!”
Teresa has been happily married for over 28 years with 2 children. Her hobbies include floral arranging, shopping and organizing. She spends her spare time watching her two boys play baseball.
Office Manager, Registered Dental Hygienist
Judy has worked in dental offices for over 20 years, with the last 8years at our office. She enjoys the challenge of working with numerous dental insurance companies, but interacting with patients every day is really what makes her smile. Judy is delighted to answer questions and cater to our patients’ needs.
Judy has been happily married for over 40 years and has 2 children and a wonderful grandson. Her hobbies are spoiling her grandson and new puppy. When time allows, Judy likes to seek bargains at area yard sales.
